I had a two-page blog already written as my response to Hillary winning. No one will get to read it because, like almost everyone in the country, my predictions were wrong and Donald Trump won an underdog, upset victory. It seems we saw the highest evangelical turnout in decades, the “Reagan Democrats” became “Trump Democrats”, and the Republican party now holds the Presidency, House and Senate, and soon will have a majority on the Supreme Court. So, now, I am gathering my thoughts about what happened, how it happened, why it happened, and what I would like to see in the next 4 years (8 statistically speaking). I have decided to offer them as a prayer and they will be my only comments on this election as the past is past and I have work to do for my Lord today and in the future.
Dear Lord, I know You are sovereign in all things and nothing happens that is apart from your providential hand accomplishing what is for Your glory and for our good. I know You are the one who puts the rulers on their thrones and You have done that for the 45th time in this country. I know You use fallen sinners to bring about Your will, because I see it happen in my own life every day. Today, as our country has made a fundamental shift… I pray for the new president and vice president. I pray that if they don’t know you as Savior, that they will fall on their knees and repent and humbly follow You as Lord in every area of their life and governance. I pray that Donald Trump, who has very little political experience will do what most presidents have done in the past and “grow” in office. I pray he will surround himself with wise men and women who will help him make wise decisions. I pray that as a nation, we can come together in a spirit of unity to fix what is so wrong in this country and will listen to each other and hear from all sides as no one group has all the answers. I pray we will all treat each other with dignity, even those with whom we may greatly disagree. There is sin in the world and those who are bound by the power of their sin, and even though we may not consent to their sin, I pray we may still show them love and concern for their souls instead of mocking them. I pray that rather than assuming the worst, there will be a spirit of humility, deference, and hope, and that everyone will wait to see the direction we are going before passing judgment on our new leaders. I pray that You will bless us only when we do that which is pleasing in Your sight, and that we will get on a path that will honor You and Your law. I pray that the church can come together in unity and that there will be no anger by Trump supporters for those who may have voted for a third party candidate for conscience sake. I pray that we, as the Bride of Christ will re-focus on our eternal mission to glorify God and evangelize the world and not fall into the trap of “Americanized Christianity”. I pray those who identify with the winning party will not give a poor testimony by gloating over our victory, and that we will not engage in bitter discussions, but listen and not always have to “win”, for it takes two to fight. I pray that President Trump will nominate judges to the Supreme Court who will interpret the constitution the way the founding fathers intended and ebb the tide of moral insanity being forced on the American People as of late. I pray that the legal slaughter of children known as abortion will become vanish and cease to be a plague and a moral cancer on this country. I pray that children who are born to families who can’t care for them will find adoptive homes where they will be loved, cared for, and find You. I pray that our economy begins to grow, not so we can be rich, but so we be in a better financial position to help those who have not because they can not provide for themselves. I pray that Your Church will continue to have the religious freedom to continue to go into all the world, unified under the banner of truth, unashamed of the gospel, and preach the good news to every soul. Finally, I pray that we will trust that You are sovereign and not be overcome by worry about the future, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Amen Don’t Be Afraid w/m Bill & Karen Itzel Be anxious for nothing, but in everything give thanks You’re on the side victorious, if you’ve joined the ranks of the redeemed, yes the redeemed Stay close to our sovereign, in the battle just ahead He will be our provider, He is the living bread for the redeemed, yes the redeemed Temptations abound to turn and run Or throw up your hands and say all hope is gone Chorus Don’t be afraid Don’t be afraid God’s plans have been laid He will come to our aid And the future has been made Don’t be afraid Our lives are full of trials. Some are the fiery kind A peace the world has lost, is there for you to find If you’re redeemed, if you’re redeemed When we run into the arms of God, there’s a rest that never fades It’s a taste of all eternity in the heaven God has made for the redeemed, for the redeemed
