They offer different benefits and keep a paragraph from getting monotonous in the reader’s mind. Songs should be the same way. We have a mix of slow and fast songs in our worship set. If every song were fast or slow, nothing would stand out and the service would be tedious. Speakers use rise and fall, loud and soft in their delivery for the same purpose. We also use songs that have a lot of theology, a lot of words, and songs that are simple in their presentation. This song is one of those. It’s basically a verse and a chorus, but it is fun to sing and does teach some good truths. As we come into Your Presence, we remember every blessing that You've poured out so freely from above. It starts out with a reminder that regardless of the week we’ve just had, we can find rest in the arms of God and in the fellowship of the saints. God is good! He has done so many things for us. So often in scripture, singing is connected to thankfulness, which leads us to peace. Colossians 3 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Lifting gratitude and praises for compassion so amazing. Lord, we've come to give You thanks for all You've done. Compassion is shown by God in the mercy He displays. 2 Corinthians 1 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort”. Everyday, even after we are saved, we fall short, but God’s mercy never fails. Because of Your love, we're forgiven. Because of Your love, our hearts are clean. For by grace we have been saved through faith. None of that comes from us, but is a gift of God. We can’t work for it, He gives it freely. We are forgiven and are positionally holy, righteous, and clean because of His work, because of His love. We lift You up with songs of freedom. Forever we're changed because of Your love. The change from the old to the new is radical. The old is gone, the new has come. We may still live within a body of fallen flesh that is a constant source of temptation, but we are free to do something we couldn’t do before we were saved… be pleasing to God. We can serve Him and be pleasing to Him, but not in our own power, it’s because of His love.
